Markkanen to Miss at Least Two Weeks With Hip Impingement, Sources Say

Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen will be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks after an MRI on Thursday revealed symptomatic hip impingement accompanied by inflammation and a bone bruise, according to sources cited by ESPN.
Sources added that the 29-year-old also twisted his right ankle during Wednesday’s practice, though subsequent tests on the ankle showed no structural damage.
Markkanen’s setback is the latest in a string of injuries for Utah. Over the past two weeks, the team has announced season-ending injuries to forwards Jaren Jackson Jr. (knee) and Jusuf Nurkic (nose) and guard Vince Williams Jr. (knee). Guard Keyonte George missed Thursday night’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans with a right ankle sprain.
The Jazz entered Thursday at 18-40, the third-worst record in the Western Conference.
Now in his ninth NBA season, Markkanen is averaging a team-high 26.7 points along with 6.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
