NBA Roundup: Flagg sidelined again; Grizzlies weigh next franchise face; Plumlee eager for Spurs role

Dallas rookie forward Cooper Flagg will miss his fifth consecutive game Thursday because of a mid-foot sprain, according to the Dallas Morning News. Despite the extended absence, the injury does not threaten his eligibility for Rookie of the Year, as that award is exempt from the league’s 65-game minimum.
Grizzlies
Memphis continues to reshape its roster after trading Jaren Jackson Jr., while Ja Morant’s long-term status remains uncertain. Inside the organization, first-year wing Cedric Coward has impressed coaches with his poise. “He’s a very mature kid for his age,” head coach Tuomas Iisalo told the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Coward, who is currently out of action, downplayed talk that he could become the club’s centerpiece, saying titles such as “franchise cornerstone” or “building block” carry little meaning for him.
Spurs
Veteran center Mason Plumlee is rehabbing from groin surgery and says he is ready to contribute in any capacity once cleared for the Spurs. “I’ve seen guys check in for five minutes and turn a game around. That’s the way I look at it,” he said to the San Antonio Express-News. Plumlee also praised San Antonio’s culture, calling it uniquely consistent behind the scenes.
The Spurs have not announced a timetable for Plumlee’s return, and the Mavericks listed Flagg as day-to-day.
