ATLANTA — Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson left Tuesday’s 119–98 victory over the Washington Wizards after sustaining a left hip flexor injury in the first quarter, the team said.
Johnson was evaluated by medical staff and ruled out for the remainder of the game, according to head coach Quin Snyder, who noted that trainers “saw enough not to send him back in.” The 24-year-old All-Star will be re-examined before Atlanta meets Washington again on Thursday to finish the back-to-back set at State Farm Arena. The club has not determined whether he will miss additional time.
Before departing, Johnson recorded five points, three rebounds and two steals in roughly five and a half minutes. He entered the contest averaging 23.4 points, 10.8 rebounds and 8.1 assists this season.
Johnson’s absence opened minutes for newly acquired forward Jonathan Kuminga, who delivered a season-best 27 points in his Hawks debut. Kuminga arrived from Golden State at the trade deadline.
