Dejounte Murray is expected to make his first appearance of the season tonight, completing a comeback from the torn left Achilles he sustained in January 2025.

The New Orleans guard’s rehabilitation was only part of a difficult year. Before the injury, Murray was coping with a series of family tragedies: his mother suffered a stroke, a cousin was killed, and an uncle died from an overdose.

“I’ve been through so much,” Murray said, according to Rod Walker of NOLA.com. “Injuries are part of sports. It’s not how you fall, it’s how you get back up. For me, it was attacking the process day by day and trying to find something positive in it.”

New Orleans enters the game at 16-42, well outside the Western Conference playoff race. Because the club does not control its 2026 first-round draft pick, there is little incentive to reduce minutes or shut players down over the season’s final stretch.

Head coach James Borrego said the 27-year-old guard should give the roster an immediate lift. “Dejounte will raise our level,” Borrego noted. “He’s worked his tail off, so there’s probably some relief that he’s finally back. More than anything, I just want him to compete and embrace the moment.”
