The NBA has levied $35,000 fines against Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. and Miami Heat forward Myron Gardner for their involvement in an on-court altercation, the league announced Monday.
The incident unfolded with 1:55 remaining in the fourth quarter of Miami’s 136-120 win over Memphis on Saturday. According to the league, Gardner initiated contact by bumping Pippen from behind, sending the guard to the floor. Pippen then responded by forcefully shoving Gardner, escalating the confrontation.
Players and coaches from both teams quickly intervened, and officials assessed technical fouls to both Pippen and Gardner before ejecting them from the game. No suspensions were issued.
“I thought it was kind of a cheap shot,” Pippen told reporters after the game. “He kind of hit me when I didn’t see him, so I thought it was a soft move.”
