Kyrie Irving will sit out the remainder of the Dallas Mavericks’ season, a move the organization believes safeguards the veteran guard’s long-term health and the club’s future, The Dallas Morning News reported.

By the time the 32-year-old returns to game action, nearly 600 days will have passed since his last appearance, giving Irving ample time to strengthen a left knee that has undergone multiple surgeries over his 15-year career. Dallas also hopes the shutdown boosts its lottery odds as it looks to place another top prospect alongside Irving and rookie standout Cooper Flagg.

“I am looking forward to coming back stronger next season. The belief and drive I have inside only grows,” Irving said.

Wembanyama Hints at Future Slam Dunk Contest

After injecting rare intensity into this year’s All-Star Game, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama signaled interest in a future Slam Dunk Contest. “I’ll be in the dunk contest one day,” the 7-foot-4 phenom said following a recent victory in which he unleashed a two-handed windmill jam.

Jordan Lifts Pelicans in Surprise Start

DeAndre Jordan logged his first minutes for the New Orleans Pelicans since Oct. 29 in Saturday’s matchup with Philadelphia, playing more than 31 minutes, pulling down 15 rebounds (five offensive) and blocking four shots. The 35-year-old center’s block total was his highest since the 2020-21 season.

“Anytime you can go out there and compete in this league, it’s a gift,” Jordan said, adding that he craved “wine and ice” after the game.

Middleton’s Season-Best Night Keys Mavericks Win

Khris Middleton delivered a season-high 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting, plus seven rebounds and seven assists, as the Mavericks edged the Pacers by five. Head coach Jason Kidd praised the veteran wing’s shot creation and playmaking, noting, “He can always get his shot off.”

Middleton has taken on a larger scoring role with Flagg sidelined, contributing 18 points in Friday’s loss to Minnesota.
