CHICAGO — Chicago Bulls guard Anfernee Simons will undergo further tests on his injured left wrist Monday and meet with a hand specialist, head coach Billy Donovan said prior to Sunday’s home game against the New York Knicks.
Simons hurt the wrist during Saturday’s 126–110 loss to the Detroit Pistons and did not appear after halftime. The team initially labeled the injury a sprain, but Donovan noted that doctors have not reached a definitive diagnosis.
“The medical staff wants him to see a hand doctor, and we’ll get imaging tomorrow,” Donovan told reporters. “Right now he’s out. He’s still sore, but we don’t yet know the extent.”
Since arriving in a deadline trade that sent center Nikola Vučević to the Boston Celtics earlier this month, Simons has averaged 15.2 points in 28.4 minutes over six games (five starts) for Chicago. The 26-year-old guard appeared in 49 contests for Boston this season, posting 14.2 points in 24.5 minutes.
A first-round pick by Portland in 2018, Simons spent his first seven NBA seasons with the Trail Blazers before the July deal that moved him to Boston for Jrue Holiday. The Bulls entered Sunday riding a season-high eight-game skid.
