Boston Celtics center Neemias Queta delivered a signature moment less than three minutes into Sunday night’s matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers, throwing down a one-handed dunk over All-NBA guard Luka Doncic with 9:35 remaining in the first quarter.
The play began when Queta set a high screen for Derrick White. Rolling to the rim, the 7-footer caught White’s bounce pass just as Doncic slid into the restricted area to contest. Queta elevated above the Lakers star and finished emphatically, prompting the Celtics’ bench to erupt.
Queta, 24, has started all season after the offseason departures of Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet. Entering Sunday, he was averaging 9.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks—each a career high.
Boston fortified its frontcourt at the trade deadline by adding veteran center Nikola Vucevic, yet head coach Joe Mazzulla has kept Queta in the opening lineup.
The Celtics-Lakers rivalry, which spans decades, delivered another highlight as Queta’s dunk underscored the intensity of the latest chapter between the two historic franchises.
