PHOENIX — The Suns announced Friday that Devin Booker has a right hip strain and will be out for a minimum of seven days before being re-evaluated.
The injury occurred during Thursday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Booker exited midway through the first quarter, briefly returned late in the second, and was ruled out for the rest of the night after halftime.
The 27-year-old had already missed eight of the Suns’ 10 games leading into the All-Star break because of a right ankle sprain. This latest setback is expected to keep him out of at least four more contests, putting additional pressure on his bid to meet the NBA’s 65-game requirement for postseason award eligibility.
Phoenix has recorded five victories this season without Booker and will have to find more in his absence. Forward Haywood Highsmith, recovering from an injury of his own, is not projected to return until March.
The team said it will prioritize caution with Booker as it navigates a compressed post-break schedule.
