CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball abruptly ended his post-game media session Thursday night after being asked about a two-car collision he was reportedly involved in earlier that day.
Multiple social media videos show a vehicle believed to be Ball’s crossing the center line in downtown Charlotte and striking an oncoming sedan. No citations had been issued as of Thursday night. Reports also indicated Ball left the scene in a different car. The Hornets have acknowledged the incident but released no further details.
Despite the crash, Ball played in Charlotte’s 105-101 home loss to the Houston Rockets, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. He fielded several basketball-related questions before walking out when the accident was mentioned.
Houston was powered by Kevin Durant’s 35 points, including two clinching free throws with 3.2 seconds left. Jabari Smith Jr. scored 15, while Alperen Şengün and Reed Sheppard added 13 apiece as the Rockets overcame an early 11-point deficit.
Grant Williams led Charlotte with 20 points, and Brandon Miller contributed 17 but went 1-for-12 from beyond the arc. The Hornets, winners of 11 of their previous 12 entering the All-Star break, built a double-digit lead in the second quarter before Durant took control in the fourth, scoring 10 points to fend off several late Hornets pushes.
The game’s outcome, however, was overshadowed by Ball’s silence regarding the accident and his sudden departure from the podium.
