The Denver Nuggets are expected to add guard KJ Simpson on a two-way contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Simpson, 23, entered the league as the 42nd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, selected by the Charlotte Hornets. He agreed to a two-year, two-way agreement with Charlotte and remained with the club until earlier this month, when the Hornets waived him to clear a roster spot for forward Tosan Evbuomwan.
During his stint in Charlotte, Simpson appeared in 50 games, starting 17. He averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds across 21.3 minutes per contest while shooting .346 from the field, .266 from three-point range and .773 at the free-throw line. His last game action came on December 18.
Denver opened a two-way slot after promoting forward Spencer Jones to a standard NBA contract. If Simpson’s signing becomes official today, league rules allow him to play in up to 16 regular-season games for the Nuggets; that number drops to 15 if the deal is finalized on Thursday.
