NEW YORK — Forward Jeremy Sochan, waived by San Antonio last week, practiced with the Knicks on Wednesday and said he is ready to contribute “a little bit of everything” as the club prepares for the stretch run.
Sochan, 22, chose New York after clearing waivers despite reported interest from 10 teams. Sporting blue-and-orange hair, he told reporters he values the Knicks’ depth and the chance to learn from established veterans. “Whatever gets me on the court, I’m going to do it 100 percent,” he said. “I still think I’m young, so being around players that have done a lot in this league is a crazy opportunity for me.”
Head coach Mike Brown indicated Sochan will receive an immediate look, potentially cutting into the minutes of rookie forward Mohamed Diawara. “He knows the league. The league knows him,” Brown said. “I have to see rather quickly what we have in him before going to the playoffs.”
Injury update
OG Anunoby is listed as questionable for Thursday’s home game against Detroit because of a toenail avulsion, but both he and Brown expect he will play. The forward, who missed the past four contests, had the nail removed and called the injury “an open wound” that is still painful.
Contract talk
Guard Jalen Brunson, speaking with Vanity Fair, referenced the discounted deal he signed with New York in 2022 and said he hopes the organization will “do right by me” on his next contract. “I feel like I sacrificed,” Brunson told the magazine.
