The Golden State Warriors will be without Stephen Curry when play resumes Thursday night against the Boston Celtics, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters Wednesday. According to Kerr, the two-time MVP missed practice and will be re-evaluated by team medical staff later in the day.
Curry, sidelined since January 30 with patellofemoral pain syndrome—commonly called runner’s knee—had hoped the All-Star break would ease the discomfort that forced him to withdraw from the midseason showcase. Kerr added that another MRI could be ordered after Curry reported that his knee “still doesn’t feel right,” preventing him from attempting a full workout.
Porzingis practices, could debut vs. former club
Kristaps Porzingis took part in a scrimmage Wednesday, clearing a potential path to make his Warriors debut Thursday against the Celtics. Porzingis played a key role in Boston’s 2024 championship run before being traded to Atlanta last summer in a cost-saving move. “It’s gonna be weird, especially first game back against Boston,” he said. “It’s gonna be cool, seeing all the guys again.”
Roster decisions loom
The season’s final two months are expected to influence several offseason choices. Porzingis becomes an unrestricted free agent in July, and Golden State may explore a long-term agreement if his fit is favorable. Guard DeAnthony Melton is projected to decline his $3.5 million player option, while veteran Al Horford must decide on a nearly $6 million option. Sophomore guard Brandin Podziemski will be eligible for a rookie-scale extension, and forwards Gui Santos and Pat Spencer are heading toward restricted free agency.
Seth Curry progressing
Seth Curry, sidelined by a sciatic nerve issue, will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the team announced. The 35-year-old has increased on-court activity, including live play, and has appeared in only two games since signing with Golden State on December 1.
Smooth road ahead
Golden State owns the Western Conference’s seventh-easiest remaining schedule, with 10 of its final 27 contests coming against teams positioned to benefit from additional losses.
