Darius Garland will remain sidelined when the NBA schedule resumes on Thursday as the Los Angeles Clippers continue to ease the newly acquired point guard back from a toe injury.
According to The Athletic, Garland is practicing on a limited basis while managing a sprain in his right big toe—the issue that has kept him out since Jan. 14—as well as lingering discomfort in the surgically repaired left big toe. Team officials have labeled him week-to-week and do not expect him to suit up until sometime in March.
Garland arrived in Los Angeles earlier this month in the trade that sent James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before the deal, the 24-year-old averaged 18.0 points and 6.9 assists over 26 starts for Cleveland, shooting efficiently across all categories after a slow opening to the season.
While Garland works toward full clearance, head coach Tyronn Lue has leaned on Kris Dunn at the point next to Kawhi Leonard, Derrick Jones Jr., John Collins, and Brook Lopez.
The Clippers insist they will not rush their new floor general, preferring to wait until he is completely healthy before inserting him into the rotation.
