The NBA’s long-running Three-Point Contest is on track for a blockbuster edition when the 2027 All-Star Weekend lands in Phoenix.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, a two-time contest winner (2015, 2021) and the league’s all-time leader in made threes, told reporters over the weekend that he intends to re-enter the event after sitting out since 2021. Curry added that he is recruiting former Warriors teammate Klay Thompson, now with the Dallas Mavericks, to join him.
Curry’s comments quickly reached three-time champion Damian Lillard (2023, 2024, 2026). The Milwaukee Bucks guard shared an Instagram screenshot of a text exchange in which he proposed a field featuring himself, Curry, Thompson and Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker, plus “four more real shooters.” Curry replied, “Yessir I’m in. Know Klay will do it if I ask and Book will be at home. Perfect setup.”
The potential quartet brings a decorated résumé: Thompson claimed the 2016 title and once scored 60 points in a single game; Booker captured the 2018 crown and owns a 70-point outing from 2017. Lillard, still rehabbing a torn Achilles suffered last season, would break his tie with Larry Bird and Craig Hodges for the most Three-Point Contest victories in NBA history if he wins again in Phoenix.
The NBA has not yet announced the official participant list for the 2027 competition.
