Scottie Barnes drilled a three-pointer on the first possession of overtime to give Team Stars a 37-35 victory over Team World in Sunday night’s opening contest of the league’s new All-Star format.
Under the revised rules, the extra period is decided by the first team to reach five points. Barnes ended the session in seconds, capping a game that stayed within a few possessions throughout regulation.
Anthony Edwards paced the Stars with 13 points, repeatedly attacking the basket. Devin Booker added five, while Barnes finished with three—all coming on the decisive shot. Cade Cunningham and Tyrese Maxey provided key stability during a sluggish late stretch.
Team World leaned on Victor Wembanyama’s 14 points and several rim protections. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 10, and Deni Avdija contributed five as World appeared fresher late in the fourth quarter.
Both squads shot below 50 percent, and defensive intensity surfaced in spurts, creating the tight, scrappy finish organizers had hoped to see. Neither side ever led by more than a handful of possessions, maintaining tension until Barnes ended it.
