Cole Anthony’s Status Uncertain After Trade, Booker and Green Return on Minutes Limits

Cole Anthony has yet to report to the Phoenix Suns following Thursday’s three-team trade that sent him and Amir Coffey from the Milwaukee Bucks to Arizona. The 25-year-old guard is listed as “not with team” for tonight’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, and head coach Jordan Ott told reporters pregame that the situation remains unresolved. “I think they’re still determining that. Working through that as we speak,” Ott said.

Anthony is on a $2.3 million expiring contract and cannot suit up elsewhere unless Phoenix waives him or reaches a buyout agreement. The deal with Milwaukee primarily reduced salary, and the Suns already carry a crowded backcourt, potentially leaving the door open for either option.

Before the trade, Anthony appeared in 35 games for Milwaukee, averaging 6.7 points while shooting 42.4 percent from the field and a career-low 30.6 percent from three-point range. He arrived in Milwaukee last summer after Orlando sent him to Memphis in the Desmond Bane deal, and he joined the Bucks as a free agent when the Grizzlies waived him.

Coffey, meanwhile, expressed enthusiasm about his new opportunity. “I’m excited,” he said. “I know it’s always weird around the deadline trying to wait to see what’s going to happen, but definitely blessed to be in this position.”

Ott acknowledged it was difficult to move on from Nick Richards and Nigel Hayes-Davis, who were included in the trade package. “They’re such great teammates,” he said, praising both players for their work ethic and contributions even when out of the rotation.

Devin Booker (right ankle sprain) and Jalen Green (right hamstring) will both return to action tonight, though each will be on a minutes restriction. Booker missed the past seven games, while Green has been available only five times all season and sat out the last three contests after a hard fall impacted his back and hip.

Grayson Allen (right knee sprain) and two-way forward Isaiah Livers (sprained left shoulder) will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break, according to the team.
