Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry said he needs to be “patient” while recovering from a right knee problem that has already kept him out of two games and leaves his return date uncertain.

Speaking to ESPN on Thursday night, Feb. 6, after Golden State’s 101-97 comeback win over the Phoenix Suns, Curry described the injury as patellofemoral pain syndrome—commonly called runner’s knee—and acknowledged persistent pain and inflammation.

“It’s trending in the right direction,” the 37-year-old star said. “But if I come back too early, it could flare up.”

Knee flared during workout

The issue surfaced two weeks ago during an individual session. Curry skipped one game in Minnesota, played the next two, then left a home loss to Detroit in the third quarter. Since then he has done only individual rehab work while the team lists him as day-to-day.

Warriors celebrate shorthanded win

Without Curry, Golden State closed on a 25-7 run in Phoenix to improve to 28-24. Head coach Steve Kerr likened the post-game locker-room reaction to winning a championship.

Front-office moves after Butler injury

The victory came amid a difficult stretch that began with Jimmy Butler’s ACL tear on Jan. 19. In search of reinforcements, general manager Mike Dunleavy pursued Giannis Antetokounmpo, even floating franchise cornerstone Draymond Green in talks. Milwaukee kept Antetokounmpo, and no deal materialized.

“I knew there was an offer,” Curry said. “At the end of the day, nobody got him.”

Porzingis arrives, draft picks stay

Pivoting from Antetokounmpo, the Warriors sent Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to Atlanta for often-injured center Kristaps Porzingis, who has played 17 games this season. The club retained its trove of future first-round picks after deciding not to meet the asking price for Jaren Jackson Jr. or Ivica Zubac.

“I’m just hoping he’s healthy,” Curry said of Porzingis. “There’s a size and presence we’ve been looking for.”

Looking ahead

Curry made clear he is not fully satisfied with the team’s situation, citing Butler’s injury, but said the roster must “figure out how to get it going again” as it battles for playoff position.
