With the NBA trade deadline only days away, Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick said he is confident in the group already in place, even as outside observers call for roster changes.
Speaking after Sunday night’s loss to the New York Knicks, Redick noted that the Lakers are 29-19 and hold sixth place in the Western Conference. “You’re never going to look at a roster and say it’s perfect,” he told Spectrum SportsNet. “Our guys have been great all season, responding to the natural ups and downs, and over the last month they’ve really focused on playing for each other and playing the right way.”
Redick acknowledged that few NBA teams are built without flaws but insisted his players have “done a nice job” of staying competitive. The Lakers sit just a few games out of a top-four seed, which would secure home-court advantage in the first round.
The first-year head coach also marked the one-year anniversary of last season’s blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic, calling the deal a turning point for the franchise. Redick recalled where he was when the trade was completed and said the acquisition continues to shape the team’s identity.
The league’s trade window closes later this week, leaving the Lakers front office a narrow window to decide whether to supplement the roster Redick publicly endorsed.
