The Los Angeles Lakers will again be short-handed when they face the New York Knicks on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden. The team’s latest injury report lists Austin Reaves (left calf strain) and Bronny James (left lower-leg soreness) as out, while rookie forward Adou Thiero continues to sit with a right MCL sprain.
Reaves, sidelined for more than a month, had been hoped to return during the club’s current eight-game “Grammy trip.” After missing Sunday’s contest, his only remaining chance to play on the swing will be Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets. The organization has maintained a cautious approach with the guard, who warmed up prior to Sunday’s game but was ultimately held out.
Without Reaves, Los Angeles will depend heavily on Luka Doncic and LeBron James to generate offense. The trio of Doncic, James and Reaves has appeared together in just eight games this season, totaling 140 minutes on the court.
The Knicks enter Sunday riding a five-game winning streak. While their defense has regressed from previous seasons, first-year head coach Mike Brown has overseen significant offensive improvement. A victory in New York would boost the Lakers to a potential 6-2 record on the road trip.
