The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to pursue Denver Nuggets wing Peyton Watson when he reaches restricted free agency this summer, according to league insider Jake Fischer.
Fischer said multiple front-office executives doubt Denver’s ability to keep the fourth-year swingman, whose breakout season has coincided with injuries to Nikola Jokić, Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun. Teams projected to have salary-cap room—including the Lakers—are already “preparing interest,” Fischer reported.
Watson’s Rising Profile
Selected 30th overall in the 2022 draft out of UCLA, the 6-foot-8 Watson is averaging more than 14 points per game while shooting 41.1% from three-point range on increased volume. Long regarded as a strong perimeter defender, he has solidified Denver’s rotation during the club’s injury-ridden campaign.
