The Los Angeles Lakers are said to be listening to trade proposals that feature forward Rui Hachimura, league sources told NBA reporter Jake Fischer.
According to Fischer, the front office is evaluating offers as it looks to strengthen the roster before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Any move involving Hachimura would be designed to add impact talent rather than reduce payroll, the report stated.
Key role off the bench
Hachimura, 28, missed time earlier this season with a calf strain but has since become a mainstay of head coach JJ Redick’s second unit. Since returning, he has averaged more than 17 points while shooting better than 50 percent overall and from three-point range in the past three games.
For the year, the fourth-year forward is converting a career-best 43.9 percent from beyond the arc, marking his third consecutive season above 40 percent. His combination of size, outside shooting and improved defense has increased his appeal to rival clubs, sources said.
Lakers’ limited trade assets
Los Angeles has few coveted trade chips, which makes Hachimura a frequent target in conversations around the league. Team officials, however, reportedly value the 6-foot-8 forward highly and would only consider parting with him for a return viewed as significantly boosting the club’s championship chances.
Redick recently praised Hachimura’s form, noting the forward has “found his groove” since moving to a reserve role.
The Lakers acquired Hachimura from the Washington Wizards in January 2023. He is eligible for free agency this summer.
