Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic said he would like the current roster to remain intact despite speculation surrounding several expiring contracts ahead of the trade deadline.
“There are a lot of guys that have a chip on their shoulders and want to prove people wrong because we’ve been doubted,” the veteran told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I would like to see what we can do and where we can go this year, but the front office has to make decisions and we all understand that.”
Chicago’s front office could either move veterans, hold steady or attempt a limited retool. Vucevic, whose deal also expires this summer, indicated he prefers to compete rather than be dealt for future assets.
Cavaliers
Dean Wade continues to draw internal praise in Cleveland. Assistant coach Kenny Atkinson called the forward “the ultimate glue guy,” according to Cleveland.com. Quiet but effective, Wade has supplied winning minutes on both ends of the floor.
The 27-year-old is eligible for a contract extension through June 30. Without an agreement, he will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Pacers
Indiana rookie Jarace Walker is gaining momentum as his first season progresses. After a career-best performance in Oklahoma City, coach Rick Carlisle noted that Walker “showed all the things that he can do out there,” referencing the forward’s shooting, driving, defense, rebounding and passing, the Indianapolis Star reported.
Walker becomes extension-eligible this summer. Recent performances have strengthened his position as the Pacers monitor his development.
