The Golden State Warriors announced Sunday that forward Jonathan Kuminga has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee and will be re-evaluated in the coming days.
Kuminga exited Thursday’s 109-101 loss to the Dallas Mavericks during the second quarter after twisting his left ankle and hyperextending the same knee. An MRI performed Friday confirmed the bone bruise, according to the team.
The 23-year-old is averaging 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds over 20 appearances, including 13 starts, this season. Before Jimmy Butler III suffered a season-ending ACL tear last week, Kuminga had been out of the rotation for 16 consecutive games.
He returned Tuesday against the Toronto Raptors and scored 20 points in 21 minutes, then added 10 points in nine minutes at Dallas before the injury forced him to leave the court.
Golden State begins a three-game road trip Sunday with back-to-back contests in Minnesota, followed by a visit to Utah on Wednesday.
The NBA trade deadline is two weeks away. League sources told ESPN that Kuminga still harbors frustration with the organization and is interested in a move elsewhere.
