Yabusele Admits Disappointing Knicks Start as Trade Talk Grows

New York Knicks forward Guerschon Yabusele said this week that his first season in New York has not matched his expectations, acknowledging the possibility of a move as the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaches.

“It’s definitely not what I was expecting coming into the season. I thought it would be a little more different,” Yabusele told reporters before the Knicks’ recent win over the Philadelphia 76ers, according to the New York Post.

The 28-year-old Frenchman has been linked to several trade discussions, and he has amplified speculation by reposting social-media messages that suggest he could benefit from a new situation. One of those posts directly urged a trade and referenced his role as captain of the French national team.

Yabusele’s court time has dwindled. He played three scoreless minutes against Philadelphia on Saturday and has largely slipped out of head coach Mike Brown’s regular rotation after arriving last summer with hopes of stabilizing the second unit.

“It’s nothing that I can control,” Yabusele said of the rumors. “Just try to be smart, be ready when my name is called.”

The forward revived his NBA stock last season in Philadelphia and followed up with a strong showing at the Olympics for France, but the fit in New York has yet to materialize. With the deadline now less than two weeks away, clarity on his future could arrive soon.
