Olympiacos has finalized a deal with veteran point guard Cory Joseph, the Greek powerhouse confirmed Monday in a press release.
The 34-year-old Canadian joined AS Monaco in December, but never took the floor after the French club was hit with a transfer ban stemming from unresolved financial obligations. With that issue still pending, Joseph opted to move to Piraeus, where Olympiacos sits at 15-8 in EuroLeague play—fourth among 20 teams and a half-game ahead of Monaco—and remains undefeated (14-0) in the Greek Basketball League.
Selected 29th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, Joseph spent 14 seasons in the league with San Antonio, Toronto, Indiana, Sacramento, Detroit, Golden State, and Orlando. He appeared in 866 regular-season games, including 191 starts, and averaged 6.7 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.4 rebounds over 21.1 minutes while shooting 44.0 percent from the field, 35.0 percent from three, and 78.6 percent at the line.
Joseph earned an NBA championship ring with the Spurs in 2014 and enjoyed his most productive stretch from 2016-19, logging at least 80 games and 25 minutes per contest in each of those four seasons with the Raptors and Pacers. Last year he played 50 games for the Magic, posting 3.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 12.2 minutes per night and starting all five games of Orlando’s first-round playoff series against Boston due to backcourt injuries.
Joseph is expected to join Olympiacos immediately as the club continues its push for domestic and continental titles.
