Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick says the club’s offensive rhythm is suffering because so many players are approaching potential 2026 free agency. Speaking after Thursday’s 112-104 loss to the Clippers, Redick noted that several Lakers are playing on expiring deals or with player options and are naturally thinking about their futures.
“Guys are worried about their futures,” Redick said. “That’s what happens when you have a team full of free agents and player options.”
Veteran guard Marcus Smart, who holds a player option for 2026-27, admitted it can be difficult to ignore contract matters. “You’ve got guys fighting for contracts and others who are secure,” Smart said. “We’re all professionals, but the human element does come into play.”
