Golden State forward Jimmy Butler will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign after an MRI revealed a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The 36-year-old was hurt in the third quarter of Monday’s victory over the Miami Heat when he landed awkwardly on his right leg. Butler remained on the floor, was assisted to the locker room and could not put weight on the knee. Imaging conducted afterward confirmed the season-ending injury.

Before going down, Butler had appeared in 37 games during his first full season with the Warriors, averaging 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 51.0% from the field. His scoring and playmaking provided Golden State with a reliable secondary option and late-game threat.

The setback raises long-term questions for the organization. Butler is under contract through the 2026-27 season and is owed more than $110 million over this season and next, making his rehabilitation timeline a key concern for team officials.

Golden State went on to win Monday’s contest, but now faces the rest of the season without one of its primary veterans.
