Avdija Upgraded to Questionable; Portland’s Two-Way Duo Continues to Impress

Portland forward Deni Avdija has been listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup in Sacramento after missing three games with a lower-back strain, the Trail Blazers announced on Saturday.

Avdija, 25, is averaging 26.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.9 assists while shooting .468/.355/.801 across 40 appearances this season.

Key injury notes

The Blazers also designated Jrue Holiday, Jerami Grant and Robert Williams as doubtful for the second half of a back-to-back. Holiday and Grant only recently returned from extended absences, and Williams continues to manage long-standing knee problems.

Team outlook

Despite a lengthy injury list, Portland moved to 21-22 after a 16-point victory over the Lakers on Saturday. “It feels like we’re starting to be the team that everyone thought we were going to be,” center Donovan Clingan said postgame.

Two-way standouts

Undrafted guard Caleb Love and rookie wing Sidy Cissoko have solidified rotation roles amid the injuries. Love produced 22 points and seven assists against Los Angeles and has scored in double figures in 14 straight outings, hitting multiple three-pointers in each to tie the second-longest streak by a rookie in league history.

Both Love and Cissoko are approaching their two-way active-game limits. Should Portland convert either contract, league observers expect forward Blake Hinson—averaging 24.4 points for G League affiliate Rip City Remix—to be a leading candidate for a two-way promotion.
