MIAMI — Oklahoma City guard Jalen Williams left Saturday night’s road game against the Miami Heat midway through the second quarter after experiencing discomfort in his right leg.
The Thunder said the 24-year-old was diagnosed with right thigh soreness and would not return. Rookie Ajay Mitchell opened the second half in Williams’ place.
The injury occurred when Williams drove into the lane, spun, and attempted a behind-the-head pass to teammate Chet Holmgren near the rim. He immediately grabbed the back of his leg and remained on the offensive end as play continued. Oklahoma City called timeout eight seconds later, and trainers briefly attended to Williams before he limped to the locker room.
Williams logged 13 minutes before departing, finishing with eight points, three rebounds and three assists. He entered the night averaging 17.2 points, 5.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds after missing the season’s first 19 games while recovering from offseason wrist surgery.
