Memphis, Tenn. — Star guard Ja Morant would like the Memphis Grizzlies to move him to the Miami Heat, according to comments from Rachel Nichols on the “SI Now Open Floor Show” with Chris Mannix, relayed by DallasHoopsJournal’s Ashish Mathur.
League sources told Nichols that Morant’s desire to land in South Florida aligns with Memphis’ willingness to entertain offers. Jake Fischer of The Stein Line added that members of the Heat front office have debated whether Miami could provide the environment Morant needs to regain his All-Star form.
The 24-year-old’s reported discontent extends beyond market preference. Multiple sources said Morant is frustrated with first-year head coach Tuomas Iisalo’s reliance on short shifts and frequent mass substitutions, believing the strategy disrupts his rhythm and tires him out over the course of games.
Morant’s contract does not include a no-trade clause, removing any procedural obstacles for Memphis. Rival executives expect the Grizzlies to prioritize draft picks and young players in return, consistent with a longer-term reset around forward Jaren Jackson Jr. Still, team officials have not ruled out keeping Morant as a franchise cornerstone, preserving leverage in ongoing discussions.
On the floor this season, Morant has appeared in 18 games, averaging 19.0 points and 7.6 assists while shooting 40.1 percent from the field.
