Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis will not undergo surgery on his injured left hand and is expected to need roughly six weeks to recover, the team announced Tuesday.

Team officials said Davis, 32, met with his physician before deciding to forgo the procedure that had originally been projected to repair ligament damage and sideline him for several months. League sources indicated the eight-time All-Star could still be out for eight weeks or more despite avoiding the operating room.

The update comes as Dallas continues trade discussions involving Davis ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline, according to sources. Multiple clubs have expressed interest in the veteran big man.

Davis hurt the hand while contesting a late drive by Utah’s Lauri Markkanen during the Mavericks’ road loss to the Jazz on Thursday. He finished that game with 21 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and one block in 35 minutes.

Since arriving from Los Angeles in the February 2025 deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers, Davis has appeared in just 29 regular-season games for Dallas. The Mavericks are 10-10 when he plays and 5-15 when he does not, as they build around Rookie of the Year candidate Cooper Flagg.

Through 20 games this season, Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks.
