Ben Simmons Remains on Market as Knicks, Kings and Warriors Emerge in Speculation

Almost two months after NBA free agency opened, three-time All-Star Ben Simmons is still without a contract. The 29-year-old guard/forward finished last season with the Los Angeles Clippers and is widely linked to the New York Knicks, though no agreement is in place.

Ian Begley of SNY.tv reported that Simmons and the Knicks share mutual interest, yet he believes the former No. 1 overall pick is “probably more likely” to sign elsewhere. New York sits just below its second-apron hard cap, leaving room for only one veteran minimum deal.

Begley added that guard Landry Shamet could ultimately fill that slot, while the Knicks have also explored adding Malcolm Brogdon. Landing more than one player would require a trade to clear salary.

Stefan Bondy of the New York Post wrote that Simmons remains on the Knicks’ radar for their 14th roster spot but noted conflicting information about the club’s level of pursuit.

In a separate report, Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report listed the Knicks, Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors among four potential destinations for Simmons. For New York, Pincus pointed to a shortage of playmaking behind Jalen Brunson last season; Brunson averaged 7.3 assists, and Josh Hart was the only other Knick to top five.

Pincus argued that Simmons could ease Brunson’s workload while complementing defensive wings Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby. He also identified the Kings and Warriors as logical fits, though no team has submitted an offer to date.
