The NBA has issued a $35,000 fine to Boston Celtics guard/forward Jaylen Brown for publicly criticizing game officials after Saturday’s four-point loss to the San Antonio Spurs at TD Garden.
In his postgame remarks, Brown singled out crew chief Curtis Blair and condemned what he called “inconsistency” in officiating. Boston attempted just four free throws in the contest, while San Antonio went to the line 20 times.
“Every time we play a good team, the inconsistency is crazy,” Brown told reporters, adding, “I’ll take the fine.”
The 29-year-old finished the night with 27 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 43 minutes, shooting 11-for-28 from the field and making no trips to the free-throw line. Brown, the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, is earning $53.1 million this season on a super-max extension, softening the financial impact of the league’s penalty.
