Portland guard Jrue Holiday is now listed as probable for the Trail Blazers’ game against the New York Knicks on Sunday, according to The Oregonian’s Joe Freeman. The veteran was previously considered questionable while working back from a right calf strain.
Holiday, 35, has been sidelined since suffering the injury on November 14, missing 27 consecutive contests. Before the setback, he averaged 16.7 points, 8.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals across 12 appearances, logging 33.4 minutes per night and shooting .446 from the field, .365 from three and .840 at the foul line.
Portland has stayed afloat despite a rash of injuries, winning five straight and seven of its last eight to move to 19-20 on the season. Holiday’s anticipated return adds needed depth to a roster that has relied heavily on reserves during the recent surge.
Robert Williams III could also rejoin the rotation Sunday. The backup center, who left Friday’s victory over Houston with knee soreness, has likewise been upgraded from questionable to probable, reports Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report. Williams, 28, is averaging 5.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 15.7 minutes over 26 games and is playing on a $13.3 million expiring contract.
