Cavs lean on Garland’s flawless fourth to slip past Pacers

The Cleveland Cavaliers erased a nine-point deficit in the final quarter and defeated the Indiana Pacers 120-116 on Tuesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Who stood out
Darius Garland scored 14 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth period, hitting all seven of his shots and stringing together 10 straight points during the decisive stretch. The guard finished 14-for-23 from the field, handed out six assists and did not commit a turnover in 37 minutes.
Shorthanded lineup
Cleveland played without leading scorer Donovan Mitchell, who sat for rest. Forward Dean Wade exited in the first half with a knee injury, and rookie Jaylon Tyson was limited while battling illness.
Supporting cast
Evan Mobley produced 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Jarrett Allen added 19 points and eight boards, sinking the clinching free throws in the closing seconds. Sam Merrill matched Allen with 19 points and connected on five three-pointers.
Pacers’ effort
Pascal Siakam paced Indiana with 22 points, and Jay Huff contributed 20 on 7-of-10 shooting. The loss extended the Pacers’ skid to a franchise-record 13 games.
Standings outlook
The Cavaliers improved to 21-17 and travel to Minnesota next. Indiana fell to 10-29.
