Golden State Warriors officials and Jonathan Kuminga’s representatives have reached an informal agreement to keep the forward off the court while the club works to move him ahead of the NBA’s February trade deadline, according to a report by Brett Siegel of Clutch Points.
Kuminga, 23, has missed the Warriors’ last nine games, registering seven coach’s decisions during that stretch. His camp reportedly prefers that he avoid game action to eliminate injury risk while negotiations continue.
The fourth-year forward becomes trade-eligible on Jan. 15 after signing a two-year, $46.8 million extension in early October. The deal carries a $22.5 million cap hit this season and a $24.3 million team option for 2026-27. If traded on the first day he is eligible, Kuminga would receive an additional $1.7 million via a trade bonus.
Multiple Teams Monitoring Situation
The Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans—currently at the bottom of the Western Conference standings—have maintained strong interest in Kuminga since the summer, the report states. The Dallas Mavericks have also been linked to the 6-foot-8 wing, while the Chicago Bulls and Portland Trail Blazers are believed to be monitoring the situation.
Warriors’ Trade Objectives
Golden State is seeking at least one rotation player who can boost its playoff push this season. Club officials are prioritizing a three-point-shooting wing capable of defending alongside Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. To meet that goal, the Warriors are reportedly willing to attach either Moses Moody or Buddy Hield to Kuminga’s contract.
Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. fits the Warriors’ profile, but Brooklyn is not currently interested in a Kuminga-centered package, according to the report.
