Anthony Davis has not officially been placed on the trade block, yet his name continues to circulate around the league, and league analyst Zach Lowe believes two teams—Milwaukee and Los Angeles—fit the profile of potential bidders if Dallas ever opens discussions.

“When Dallas fired Nico Harrison and I went through all the fake Anthony Davis trades, I said right away you’ve got to look at teams that are desperate to win,” Lowe said on his podcast. “I’d look at the Bucks. I’d look at the Clippers.”

Both clubs sit outside the top tier in their respective conferences and carry expensive, veteran-heavy rosters that heighten the urgency to compete for a title this season.

Contract and Extension Outlook

Davis is earning $54.1 million this season and $58.5 million in 2024-25. He holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28 and becomes eligible in August for a four-year, $275 million maximum extension. According to Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal, the 31-year-old intends to seek an extension with the Mavericks in the offseason if he remains in Dallas. Should he be moved, Davis and agent Rich Paul are expected to pursue a new deal with the acquiring team.

Health Remains the X-Factor

Availability continues to shape Davis’s market value. The eight-time All-Star has appeared in only 17 games this season, averaging 20.1 points and 10.7 rebounds while anchoring the Mavericks’ defense. Since arriving last season in the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade, he has played 26 games in total.

Dallas Listening, but Holding a High Bar

Following Harrison’s dismissal, Dallas has gauged interest not only in Davis but also in Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson, and D’Angelo Russell, league sources told Afseth. Team officials maintain that any deal involving Davis would require a substantial return, noting that the organization is reluctant to part with a player considered a top-75 talent without a clear path toward long-term improvement.

For now, Davis remains a Maverick, yet league executives expect his name to stay active in trade conversations until the franchise’s direction becomes clearer.
