The Atlanta Hawks are evaluating front-court upgrades and have shown interest in Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Atlanta’s search intensifies as Kristaps Porzingis remains sidelined by illness, an absence that has cost the Hawks 14 of their last 15 games and left the rotation short on size.

Gafford, 26, signed a three-year, $60 million extension last offseason that keeps him under contract through 2029—roughly the same financial range as Wendell Carter Jr. and Jarrett Allen. That long-term commitment complicates any trade discussions.

Team sources told Amick the Hawks have no intention of including 2024 No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher in a potential deal. Despite an uneven second season, Atlanta’s front office remains confident in Risacher’s development.

Dallas is reportedly open to moving Gafford for the right package, with an emphasis on acquiring young talent and expiring contracts as the Mavericks continue to reshape their roster.

Gafford’s own injury history adds another layer of risk for Atlanta, which has dropped seven straight games and 10 of its last 12 ahead of the trade deadline.
