Rui Hachimura will be sidelined for approximately seven days while he deals with soreness in his right calf, Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick said Tuesday.

The forward was held out of the matchup against the Detroit Pistons after appearing to come through Sunday’s win over the Sacramento Kings without issue. Hachimura logged 26 minutes and scored 12 points in that game, but the team opted to rest him when discomfort in his calf surfaced.

“He’ll be sort of out a week. That’s kind of the target,” Redick told reporters before the meeting with Detroit. “He’ll miss a couple games and then we’ll get him ramped up and hopefully he’s playing in the next week.”

Hachimura joins guard Gabe Vincent (back) and guard Austin Reaves (calf) on an injury list that has tested the Lakers’ depth throughout the 2025-26 season. In the frontcourt, Redick is expected to rely on Jarred Vanderbilt and Jake LaRavia until Hachimura returns. LaRavia started against the Pistons, while Vanderbilt supplied his usual energy off the bench.

The 28-year-old Hachimura is averaging 12.0 points this season, providing floor spacing with his perimeter shooting and the ability to defend power forwards and smaller centers. His absence underscores the club’s limited options up front as the Lakers try to regain their early-season form.

Despite the team’s recent slide, Hachimura said earlier this week that he remains confident Los Angeles can rebound, noting that stretches of uneven play are common during a long season.
