The Toronto Raptors said Tuesday that center Jakob Poeltl will remain sidelined for at least one more week as he completes an intensive rehabilitation and strengthening program for a lower-back strain.
The announcement, made on December 29, noted that Poeltl will be re-evaluated in seven days. The 7-foot Austrian has already missed three consecutive games and five of the past six because of lingering back trouble that began in training camp. Overall, he has been unavailable for 12 games this season.
Poeltl is set to sit out the Raptors’ upcoming homestand against the Orlando Magic on Monday, the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, and the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. His next medical check is scheduled before a rematch with Atlanta on the following Monday.
Toronto’s recent move to sign veteran center Mo Bamba to a non-guaranteed contract on Monday morning underscored the club’s expectation that Poeltl would remain out in the short term.
