The Indiana Pacers have agreed to a non-guaranteed contract with free-agent forward/center Micah Potter and will waive guard Garrison Mathews to clear the roster spot.
League sources confirmed the move Wednesday. Potter’s contract will run through the remainder of the 2025-26 season and includes a team option for 2026-27.
Frontcourt depth needed
Indiana turned to the 6-foot-9, 27-year-old big man with Isaiah Jackson sidelined by a concussion and Tony Bradley nursing a fractured thumb. James Wiseman is also nearing the end of a 10-day hardship deal signed last Saturday, and the Pacers will not receive an additional hardship exception.
Potter’s NBA and G League résumé
Potter entered the league with Detroit during the 2021-22 campaign and spent the past three seasons on a two-way contract with Utah. He has appeared in 64 NBA games, averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 18.6 minutes.
After signing a training-camp deal with San Antonio in August and being waived before Opening Night, Potter joined the Austin Spurs in the G League, where he is averaging 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds across 13 outings.
Mathews’ brief stint ends
Mathews, 29, arrived in November on two consecutive 10-day hardship contracts before landing a standard deal that was fully non-guaranteed. The shooting specialist logged 15 games with Indiana, posting 5.2 points in 13.1 minutes per night while shooting 37.0 percent from beyond the arc. Because his contract carried no guarantees, the Pacers will not owe additional salary after his release.
