NEW YORK — Pre-game walk-ins turned into a holiday runway on Thursday as NBA stars arrived for the league’s annual Christmas Day slate dressed in festive outfits that ranged from classic ugly sweaters to designer winter coats.
The fashion parade highlighted the NBA’s longest-running tradition. Since the 1946-47 inaugural season, the league has scheduled games on Dec. 25, and 2025 marks the 18th consecutive year featuring a five-game schedule.
Five games, five stages
Action tipped off at noon ET when the New York Knicks hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden. Social media posts by both teams showed forward Josh Hart greeting fans in a red-and-green ensemble the team labeled “#ULTRADrip,” while Cavaliers players posed in coordinated winter looks outside the visitors’ tunnel.
The day concludes with a 10:30 p.m. ET matchup between the defending champion Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves in Denver. Center Karl-Anthony Towns drew attention on arrival in a bright, snow-patterned sweater that matched the Timberwolves’ alternate uniforms.
Staying on theme
Across all five arenas, players embraced seasonal flair—some opting for traditional Christmas colors, others choosing high-fashion coats and scarves suited for late-December weather. Team photographers captured each entrance, turning social feeds into a rolling lookbook between games.
The NBA’s Christmas Day broadcast lineup also includes the Milwaukee Bucks at the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers visiting the Golden State Warriors, and a prime-time meeting between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Phoenix Suns.
With games stretching from midday through late night, the on-court action shares the spotlight with a style contest that has become as anticipated as the scores themselves.
