Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Wednesday that he and forward Draymond Green have mended fences after a heated timeout exchange during Monday night’s game against the Orlando Magic.
“Frankly, Monday night was not my finest hour,” Kerr told reporters, explaining that he and Green spoke privately and accepted joint responsibility for the sideline flare-up. “I apologized to Dray, he apologized to me, we both apologized to the team. These things happen.”
The confrontation occurred in the third quarter when Green, 35, left the bench to cool down and did not return to the floor. The moment briefly reignited speculation about Green’s future, though Kerr dismissed the notion that the incident marked a breaking point. “One of the things I love about Draymond is his loyalty,” Kerr said. “He’s loyal to the Warriors, loyal to me, loyal to Stephen Curry. I’ll go to bat for him as long as I’m coaching here.”
Kerr characterized his relationship with the four-time All-Star as “familial,” noting that conflict is almost inevitable after more than a decade together. “My number one goal is for him to finish his career as a Warrior,” the coach added.
Green is averaging 8.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three-point range. He is also committing 3.1 turnovers per game.
Golden State enters Thursday with a 15-15 record, still searching for consistency as the roster ages and the championship core battles to regain its former dominance. For now, Kerr emphasized, the partnership with Green remains intact.
