Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) confirmed Monday that Bobby Webster will remain in charge of basketball operations for the Toronto Raptors, ending an offseason search for a new team president.
MLSE president and CEO Keith Pelley said the organization interviewed external candidates before deciding no additional executive was necessary. “It became clear we already have the right person leading the Raptors in-house,” Pelley noted in a team statement, adding that roster construction, club culture and the NBA’s competitive landscape all factored into the decision.
Webster, 40, is entering his ninth season as general manager and 13th year overall with the franchise. He first joined the front office in 2013, later serving as assistant general manager and vice president of basketball management and strategy before being promoted to GM in 2017. He played a key role in assembling Toronto’s 2019 championship roster.
“The things that are important to me—a deep love for basketball, thoughtful and empowering leadership, and a competitive fire—are the pillars of who I am as a leader,” Webster said. “This is a new chapter in Raptors basketball, but one thing that will not change is our passion for winning and our goal to bring another championship to Toronto.”
According to Pelley, this summer’s meetings with Webster in Las Vegas reinforced confidence in the executive’s rapport with players and staff as well as his vision for the organization. With the search concluded, Webster will continue guiding personnel decisions as the Raptors prepare for the 2024-25 NBA season.
