The New Orleans Pelicans’ 7-22 start has prompted rival executives to monitor the roster, and league sources say several rotation wings are drawing calls.
Teams inquire about Trey Murphy III and Herbert Jones
According to DallasHoopsJournal reporter Grant Afseth, forward Trey Murphy III and defensive specialist Herbert Jones are generating “significant” attention. While New Orleans is not actively shopping either player, clubs in need of wing depth—including the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors—have checked on their availability and were told any offer would have to be substantial.
Saddiq Bey’s market grows after year-long absence
Forward Saddiq Bey is also appearing in talks after missing the entire previous season with a torn ACL. The 24-year-old told Afseth he “prayed” during rehab for a chance to return in a meaningful role and now feels “blessed” to be healthy.
Bey is averaging 14.8 points and 6.1 rebounds overall. In games he starts, those numbers rise to 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds, while he has guarded multiple positions and adapted to different lineups without forcing offense.
Borrego to coach out season
Internally, the Pelicans are pleased with the effort and results under interim head coach James Borrego, sources told Hoops Wire. Borrego is expected to remain in charge for the rest of the season, giving him a full audition for the permanent job. Any mid-season changes, the sources added, are more likely to involve the roster than the coaching staff.
