The Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday assigned forwards Dalton Knecht and Adou Thiero to their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
South Bay is scheduled to face the San Diego Clippers on Tuesday night.
The move marks Knecht’s first stint with South Bay. Thiero has already spent time shuttling between the NBA roster and the G League this season.
Knecht, a first-round pick in 2025, has appeared sparingly for head coach JJ Redick during the 2025-26 campaign. Although regarded as a reliable three-point shooter, the 24-year-old has struggled to secure minutes due to inconsistent defense. Both Knecht and Redick said over the summer that an overly rigorous offseason regimen may have left the rookie fatigued; he was unable to score efficiently in Summer League despite a lower level of competition.
An assignment to the G League provides additional practice and game reps. With the parent club growing healthier—despite Austin Reaves being sidelined at least a week by a calf strain—opportunities for players at the end of the bench have become limited.
Redick has repeatedly voiced confidence in Knecht’s long-term potential, even as the forward seeks to regain rhythm and confidence. Outside shooting remains a premium skill, and the Lakers will monitor Knecht’s progress closely in South Bay.
