PHILADELPHIA — Paul George erupted for a season-best 35 points, making 7 of 10 three-pointers in the 76ers’ Sunday loss in Atlanta. The veteran forward, who missed Philadelphia’s first 12 games with a left knee issue, said growing familiarity with the team’s schemes has boosted his confidence.

George, 34, appeared in only 41 contests last season. His four-year, $211.6 million contract drew questions at the time, yet the nine-time All-Star believes improved health will allow him to meet expectations. “I’m more myself than I was last year,” he said.

Cleveland Monitors Sam Merrill’s Finger

CLEVELAND — Cavaliers guard Sam Merrill remains about four weeks removed from jamming his right finger during on-court contact and has not resumed full basketball activities. Wearing a wrap during recent individual work, Merrill showed limited use of the hand, head coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters.

Atkinson noted the injury has slowly improved—swelling is down and no structural damage was found—but progress has been modest. “He’s frustrated. We’re frustrated. It’s just a slow healing process,” the coach said.

Nets Match Franchise Record With 45-Point Rout

BROOKLYN — The Nets overwhelmed Milwaukee 127-82 on Sunday, tying the largest victory margin in team history. Assistant coach Steve Hetzel collected his first career win while filling in for Jordi Fernández, who missed the game due to illness.

Brooklyn held the Bucks scoreless over the final seven minutes and showcased balanced scoring, with four of its five recent first-round picks playing key minutes. The Nets have now won four of six after starting 0-7 and sit three games shy of the Eastern Conference play-in cut.

Noah Clowney summarized the rare blowout: “This is the NBA. You don’t do that often to anybody.”
