NEW YORK — Forward Kyle Kuzma called Sunday night’s 45-point defeat to the Brooklyn Nets the low point of the Milwaukee Bucks’ season, telling reporters, “We lost by 45 points to a team that’s trying to lose,” according to The Athletic’s Eric Nehm.
The Bucks trailed by 17 at halftime at Barclays Center, were down 28 after three quarters and fell behind by more than 30 early in the fourth. The final margin matched the largest victory in Nets franchise history and marked just the fourth time Milwaukee has lost by at least 45 points. It was the Bucks’ heaviest loss since a 45-point setback against Detroit on Dec. 31, 2007.
Kuzma emphasized that the result reflected Milwaukee’s shortcomings rather than Brooklyn’s intentions, adding, “If you’re not ready, you’re gonna get your butt whooped.”
Milwaukee opened the season 8-5 but has dropped 11 of its last 14 games. Giannis Antetokounmpo missed Sunday’s contest with a strained right calf.
Bobby Portis said each player must “look in the mirror” as the Bucks attempt to climb back toward .500. Head coach Doc Rivers echoed the call for accountability. “It starts with me,” Rivers said. “I’ve got to get these guys right.”
