Brooklyn, N.Y. — Forward Michael Porter Jr. said Thursday he intends to prove he belongs in the Brooklyn Nets’ long-term plans, even as the team’s 2025-26 campaign heads toward the lottery.

Speaking on Dec. 11, 2025, Porter Jr. acknowledged the franchise’s decision to prioritize draft positioning but stressed that he wants to remain part of the rebuild. “I’m here to show why I should be one of the cornerstones,” he said.

The Nets have struggled throughout the first two months of the season and are widely viewed as sellers ahead of the trade deadline. Porter Jr., whose contract includes future guarantees, said his focus is on consistent production rather than speculation about potential moves.

Brooklyn acquired the 6-foot-10 scorer in the offseason as part of a larger roster shake-up. Despite the team’s record, Porter Jr. has logged significant minutes and emphasized that his goal is to “set the tone every night” while younger teammates develop.

While management has not publicly committed to any player beyond this season, Porter Jr. believes strong individual performances can alter the franchise’s course. “If I play the way I know I can,” he said, “it’ll be hard for anyone to think about letting me go.”
